Recently, Kanye West premiered his Yeezy Season 4 collection outside during New York Fashion Week on an unusually sweltering day. So sweltering in fact that it prompted one of his models to fall over in exhaustion. Naturally, many of his fans expected nothing but the best while some industry insiders were waiting to criticize the entire show, from the looks, models and ultimately the overall creative direction of the Yeezy Spring 2017 RTW collection.

We all know that Mr. West comes with controversy. It might be safe to say that he’s become quite comfortable with that fact. A few days before the Yeezy Season 4 show, Kanye tweeted a casting call requesting multi-racial women only causing quite the stir on social media. Most of his models were very diverse looking, which became a huge plus for Kanye. Unfortunately, many of his models were said to have been treated poorly because they couldn’t get water. The models had been standing outside for hours and one model’s heel broke on stage. This was yet another downside for him causing some fashion editors to blast him for being cruel to his models. Interesting. I’ve never heard of these editors complaining about the underage models that are starved before going on stage at plenty of New York Fashion Week shows, but I digress.

Where the collection lacked in color, it made up for in simplistic style. Every single piece helped to mold and pull together each outfit for a signature Kanye West creation. The Yeezy Season 4 collection offers very comfortable looks without compromising creativity. I especially loved the oversized sweaters, jackets and thigh high boots; there wasn’t a big emphasis on sneakers in this collection.

With that being said, it’s a bit hard to actually dissect this collection due to what seems like a disastrous show. Perhaps maybe all of the hype surrounding the Yeezy Season 4 New York Fashion Week show has hindered critics from focusing on Kanye West’s actual fashion designs like every other designer. Only time will tell if Kanye will actually become a well-respected designer in the fashion industry.
