An OG is known for having exceptional skills and influence that can inspire a new generation of talent. Lebron James is the NBA’s highest scorer and is revered as one of the league’s greatest basketball players of all time. Aretha Franklin is undoubtedly an OG of music, as her timeless voice soared for decades. And Bun B became an OG of rap by being a member of UGK, releasing five solo albums, and creating his latest feat, Trill Burgers.

The summer restaurant buzz in Houston has several must-try destinations, including Trill Burgers, located at 3607 S. Shepherd Drive, in the space previously occupied by James Coney Island. The restaurant was co-founded by Bun B (Bernard Freeman), Nick Scurfield, and restauranteur Andy Nguyen and has been a hit since opening last month.

The Trill Burgers’ hip-hop-inspired menu includes the OG Burger, the Triple OG Burger, Vegan OG Burger, and the OG Burger Combo. The regular OG burger is made with two 44 Farms Texas beef patties, pickles, caramelized onions, and their special trill sauce on a potato roll bun.

The restaurant has been filled with customers inside or waiting in line to try one of the most talked about burgers in Bayou City. Drake even stopped by to show his support for Bun B and taste one of the OG Burgers, which he proclaimed was “the best burger I ever had.”

The Trill Burgers concept began in the summer of 2021 with pop-ups at local food events. The burger was successful and quickly rose to fame throughout the country. In 2022, Good Morning America named the burger the “Best Burger in America,” and the burger made its way through the festival circuit by being served at big-name festivals such as Coachella, Rolling Loud, and Rock The Bells.

Before opening its first location earlier this year, 41,000 Trill Burgers were served during the 2023 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It’s no surprise that a brick-and-mortar location soon followed after Trill Burgers were in high demand.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Parking is limited, but a drive-thru is in the works.
