Bright lights, big voices and behind the scenes costume changes are a big part of live musicals. From West Side Story to Chicago to The Phantom of the Opera, musicals have thrilled audiences with award-winning songs, highly choreographed performances and acting chops fit for an Oscar contender.

TUTS (Theatre Under The Stars) Underground, which presents performances in downtown Houston at the Hobby Center, offers a contemporary approach to the world of musicals and live theatre. TUTS Underground attracts the modern-age musical lover by booking shows that contemporary audiences can relate to. With plots of sex, love, revenge and self-discovery, the most innovative and thought provoking musicals coming out of the Broadway community are featured at TUTS Underground.

Striking 12, an infectious pop/rock/jazz fable about a grumpy guy on New Year’s Eve, is a musical that is currently running from Dec. 17-23 at TUTS Underground. The main character is over the holiday season and makes a resolution to not do anything but to stay home and go to bed. The story unfolds with music, laughter and additional characters and plots being added to the mix.
