Jake Gyllenhaal Stars in
the 1989 Classic Remake of ‘Road House’
If you’re a connoisseur of cult classics, the 1980s, and action movies, then there’s a big chance you’ve seen Road House. The 1989 film starred Patrick Swayze in one of his most iconic roles, as Dalton, a martial arts-trained expert with a philosophy degree who was hired as a bouncer to bring order to Double Deuce, a chaotic small-town bar.
The Rowdy Herrington-directed film was full of action and drama, with a hint of romance. The film became a cult classic through the years because of its wild characters, memorable quotes, some explosive fight scenes, and the movie’s gritty depiction of small-town culture.
And now, in the era of remakes, the action-packed Swayze film has been reimagined for a new generation. The new Road House, which will be released on March 21, 2024, on Prime Video, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter with a dark past and fondness for violence.
Frankie, played by Jessica Williams, is the owner of a roadhouse that is infiltrated with gang violence. So she hires Dalton to be her new bouncer, hoping he can clean up her bar, which includes going up against the local crime boss Brandt (Billy Magnussen) and the merciless gun-for-hire, Knox (Conor McGregor).
Gyllenhaal is a great actor, and he has starred in films such as Southpaw, Jarhead, and, of course, Brokeback Mountain. But even with all of his accolades and success, Gyllenhaal has some big shoes to fill. Swayze’s Dalton was tough, brutal yet ethical, and sexy, and he delivered in every action-packed scene.
The film also stars Daniela Melchior, Joaquim de Almeida, Austin Post (Post Malone), Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, and B.K. Cannon. The new Road House character posters were recently released, and the film will open the SXSW Film & TV Festival (March 8-16, 2024) with a world premiere screening.
