Brunch has become one of those most sought-after mealtimes, and for so many reasons. The menu is usually an impeccable (if you’re at the right place) blend of breakfast and lunch favorites but with a twist. Restaurants are conceptualizing unique menu items so that they can stand out from the rest. Anyone can make scrambled eggs, so standout dishes have elevated a restaurant’s brunch game, which keep customers coming back.

Then, of course, there are the cocktails. Mimosas have always been the standard, but a well-crafted beverage menu has more than just the standard. It’s filled with one-of-a-kind sips that make a second round a little hard to resist.

And most brunches are offering live entertainment. From soul-stirring jazz bands to house music DJs to the sass of a drag queen, brunch has become a daytime party.

Boheme Brie

Bar Boheme is a Montrose gem, and the venue has recently expanded its offerings from a curated wine bar and date night hotspot, to brunch destination with glitter, gold and French toast fit for a queen. On the last Sunday of every month, Drag Queen Brunch takes over Boheme with the brunch happening from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and a drag show from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

It’s a unique concept that’s similar to the famed live Drag Show Brunches at Palace South Beach in Florida, but with a Bayou City flair. Some of Houston’s most talented drag queens have performed during Boheme’s Drag Queen Brunch, including Chloe Knox, Cyn City, Chloe Crawford, and Angelina.

Filipino Biscuits & Gravy

In addition to the hair whips and lip-syncing to Beyoncé’s latest, Boheme’s brunch menu is worth checking out. Some of the popular items include the Filipino Biscuits & Gravy, Brioche French Toast and the Avocado Toast with Smoked Salmon. The drink menu also has some noteworthy libations, including the Besos, which is made with Effen Vodka, guava nectar and cava. Then there’s the Pretty In PeyChaud’s, which is made with peychaud’s aperitivo and sparkling rosé.

The next Drag Queen Brunch is on Sunday, Dec. 30, and in addition to the fierce drag queens, local DJs such as Athenz often play at Boheme, keeping the crowd entertained while they’re enjoying some high-energy drag queens over brunch.
