Everyone seems to be experiencing veganism these days, with restaurants offering a range of plant-based options that include appetizers, desserts and even pizzas. Embracing the vegetarian takeover can be good for your health, because eating healthier can improve your skin, heart and your sex life. Oh yes, plant-based eating can elevate your testosterone levels, which can make your sex drive stronger; which brings me to a vegan experience that I’ll never forget.

Pinky Cole

Pinky Cole is the owner of Slutty Vegan, an Atlanta-based restaurant that offers “fast-casual junk food” that is plant-based, delicious, hearty and artfully messy. Cole’s slutty-inspired menu items are a spin on traditional burgers, hot dogs and po’boys, with the Fussy Hussy, the Heaux Boy, Hollywood Hooker Philly, One Night Stand, and the Super Slut, which is made with her Impossible Burger patty, guacamole, jalapenos, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and a slutty sauce on a vegan Hawaiian bun.

Before becoming a brick-and-mortar location at 1542 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. in the Westview Commercial District of Atlanta, Slutty Vegan was a food truck that appeared as a mobile kitchen and for late night pop-ups that had people waiting in line for hours for a taste. Last month, Cole was back on the road with her food for the “Gettin’ Slutty Tour,” where she traveled to cities such as Los Angeles, Baltimore, Washington D.C., New York, New Orleans and a stop in Houston on March 18.

The Alley Kat Bar & Lounge was the space used for Slutty Vegan’s pop-up restaurant, which had a line around the corner with Houstonians also waiting hours for one of Cole’s slutty burgers.

I had the pleasure of trying one of her burgers and fries and I was amazed. I thought, “How could a burger without ground beef taste this good?” Cole’s burgers are not only big and juicy, but they taste homemade. The kind your mother would make for a family barbecue or party.

I didn’t get a chance to meet with Cole before she left in her slutty mobile, and I don’t know when she’ll be back. But I’m sure she’s somewhere making her mark and letting people know that vegan is life.
