Peacock’s 'Bel-Air'
Goes Deeper for Season Two
The new season of Bel-Air recently premiered on Peacock, NBC’s official streaming service, and it has all the critics talking.
The hit drama reimagines the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, cast in a darker, grittier light. The series follows Will Smith (a fictionalized version of the Oscar-winning actor) as he moves from the rough streets of West Philadelphia to a posh community in Bel-Air.
The second season debuted on Feb. 23 to widespread acclaim. This season finds Will learning more about himself as he adjusts to his new life in California and builds a stronger relationship with his cousin Carlton. It also depicts the Banks family struggling to rebuild the trust broken last season while Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv work to balance their careers and marriage.
The show explores themes of race, class, and identity in a familiar yet refreshing way and depicts the characters dealing with timeless struggles amidst a modern cultural landscape.
The new season already has a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with most critics agreeing that the show has hit its stride after initially struggling to find an identity outside the classic tropes of the original.
New episodes of the show come out every Thursday on Peacock. Any fans of the original series will definitely want to check it out.
