When you think of Summer 16, you can’t help but to think of Drake and DJ Khaled. Khaled has the keys and Drake’s along for the ride with their smash hit single, “For Free.” Despite being the opening act for Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour, that hasn’t stopped DJ Khaled from creating some new music of his own.  Song features are a big part of Khaled’s formula when making music, so it was no surprise when Drake led the way as his co-star for the lead single from his latest album, Major Key.

Social media has lent itself well to all things DJ Khaled. The DJ coined the phrase “major key” while highlighting moments throughout his day on the popular social media platform, Snapchat. It was also on Snapchat that Khaled revealed that Drake made the final touches to the single. Drake references lyrics from Kendrick Lamar’s “For Free?” (Interlude) as well as Too $hort’s “Blow the Whistle.” “For Free” features a sample from rapper Too $hort and Akinyele with production by Nineteen85 and Jordan Ullman.

The popularity of “For Free” is undisputed as not only fans, but radio gravitated to the song which helped it peak at No. 1 on Billboard’s Urban Chart, while Major Key debuted at No. 1 itself on top of Billboard’s 200 album charts at the beginning of the month.
