When you think of talented DJs that have emerged onto the music scene recently, you have a few that come to mind and for different reasons. Hip-hop’s own DJ Khaled has grabbed a few headlines this summer as the opening act for Beyoncé’s latest tour. In the electrifying society of electronic dance music, DJ Snake consistently collabs with some of pop music’s biggest stars. And with his own syndicated radio show and residencies at five-star destinations such as the Rehab Beach Club at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Dee Jay Silver delivers a unique blend of rock, house, hip-hop and country music that’s helped to build his following for the past 15 years.

Dee Jay Silver is a country music staple that has no limits. As a DJ, producer and remixer, he’s performed at some of the largest music festivals, sporting events and award shows with his blend of mash-ups, melodies and up-tempo mixes of some of country music’s biggest heavyweights. The native Texan knows how to rock and crowd, in a hick-hop, on your feet type of fashion.

Dee Jay Silver recently released his first original song called “Just Got Paid” featuring county music sensation Austin Webb. The song tips its hat to the freedom of just getting paid, getting off of work and taking on the weekend for three glorious days. In addition to “Just Got Paid,” Silver is working on a full album that will feature JT Hodges, and Brett Young, in addition to a few more cuts with Webb.

On the heels of the “Just Got Paid” release, Silver and I talked about his music and career.

JMG: You just released your latest music video for your single “Just Got Paid” featuring Austin Webb. What was it about Austin that made you want to collaborate with him on this song?

Dee Jay Silver:  We met once on a plane coming from Las Vegas, and he was just a nice guy. We started vibing and I said, “Hey man, I got this concept for this album I want to do, would you like to come in and write some songs with me.” When he wrote the song, it sounded like something that he needed to sing. It just fit him.

You’re currently on tour with Jason Aldean. What’s it like to be on the road with him?
It’s been great. It’s our sixth or seventh tour together. We’re a good 1-2 punch. Our show is loud, big and full of energy. I try to make it a huge party before he even hits the stage and when he takes it over, he takes it to the next level.

You’ve been in the music industry for over 15 years. What made you decide to become a DJ/Remixer/Producer?
You know, I’d hear other DJs, and I was always intrigued by it. I can’t play any instruments, but one opportunity turned into another opportunity and through the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with great people that I picked up and learned so much from. I try to make myself better every day.

Where are some of your favorite places to perform?
I love playing in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Canada is always a good time.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit Calgary Stampede (festival), ya’ll should do that. Of course, being a Texas boy, I love playing anywhere in Texas. There was a time in my life where I lived in Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Lubbock, Tyler, Waco, San Marcos, South Padre and Brownsville. I loved getting out and just seeing all the people. Any chance I get to come home and play Texas, I take the opportunity.

What other projects are you currently working on?
Yeah man, my radio show is called “The Country Club with Dee Jay Silver” and we’re in almost 80 markets now. It’s the first syndicated country radio mix show. We also got a signature wine series come up in Texas. I’m definitely going to finish the album and working on tours for next year.
