Have you been on fashion twitter lately? If you have then you’ve quite obviously heard the somewhat perplexing news of Jimmy Choo selling to handbag mogul Michael Kors for a whopping $1.2 billion. The news came as a bit of a shock to the fashion community because Jimmy Choo is known for high fashion, while most people recognize Michael Kors as high-priced fashion – note the subtle difference.

As a reader, you may have detected a bit of shade towards the American born designer, but it’s certainly not! Michael Kors has paved the way for many aspiring American designers in a predominantly European influenced fashion industry. However, on the spectrum of department store to high fashion boutique, there are more people sporting MK than Jimmy Choo. The reason being is because Jimmy Choo doesn’t particularly market themselves to the average middle-class citizen. So now that Jimmy Choo sold out to MK, does this mean we will see more of their shoes marked down and sold in Marshalls?

Many fashion fighters shudder at the thought of that. As for myself, I’m all about everyone being able to afford luxurious and high-end clothing. Why not? My only concern is the direction that Jimmy Choo stilettos will go toward as far as the unique way for which we’ve come to know and love Jimmy Choo: classiness, quality and edgy style. As of now we can only wait and see what Mr. Kors and his team have up their sleeves for us.
