Karen Stokes Dance

For almost three decades, Karen Stokes has enveloped her mind, spirit and body into rhythmic and musical expression and creation, choreographing nine evening-length productions and over 35 repertory works within the realm of dance theater.

Over two-thirds of that time has been spent working, guiding and directing the Travesty Dance Group, which formally became Karen Stokes Dance in 2011. And you are cordially invited to celebrate those 20 years of original creation with “X20,” a retrospective look at the career and works of Stokes through the lens of live performance and film.

Featuring performances from various KSD alums like Theresa Chapman, Leslie Scates, and Toni Leago Valle, “X20” will include two acts filled with performances that pay homage and recreate some of Stokes’ earliest and most popular projects.

“X20” takes place at the Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston (MATCH) for two shows Nov. 10-11 at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $25. For tickets, visit matchouston.org/events/x20. For more information on Karen Stokes Dance, visit karenstokesdance.org or contact Company Manager Toni Valle at 713-409-2838.

And for a more in-depth look, be sure to attend the free “Review-Preview: X20” event on Nov. 6, and hear from the woman herself!
