A great live performance can derive from a variety of show-stopping moments from concerts, plays and theatrical presentations. But there’s one nationwide performance that’s causing pulses to race and bodies to sweat for over 120 minutes. Of course, Texas can handle any type event, even those with a little magic.

Magic Men Live Tour

The Magic Men Live tour brings its troupe of male performers and live stage production to the Lone Star State this month with stops in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Robstown and Houston. The show features muscle-ready cowboys, firefighters and military men that dance, grind and mesmerize audiences with several themed performances.

After finding out that the show was coming to Houston, I reached out to the group and spoke with Miles, one of the performers in the show, about the tour and why it’s been such a hit.

Between the choreography and concepts for your performances, how long did it take to create the entire show?
Miles: This show was developed over the course of four years, until it became a complete show. Once completed, we started traveling regionally to different cities that were basically driving distance. We were all driving our own vehicles from city to city performing at different venues. We kept consistently having sold out performances. I think we sold 90-95% of our performances out for the first year on the road. Obviously, at that point, we were like “it’s time to expand and develop it further.” So it continues to be developed over time. We tweak it here and there and update things. After this tour, we’re going to be taking a bit of time off and we’ll be coming back next year with an even bigger and better show.

Obviously, you guys work out. Is there anything in particular that you do to stay lean and fit.
Well the show itself keeps us pretty lean just because it’s such a high intensity show and its runs about 2 ½ hours, and its nonstop, go-go-go. While we’re on the road, we’re always looking for local gyms to work out in. There’s also a bit of dieting involved, watching what we eat and making sure we’re getting proper nutrition to maintain our physiques. Being physically fit and having the stamina to perform a two hour show nonstop is a big part of production.

You have a show at Revention Music Center on December 4. What can people expect when seeing your show for the first time?
Well there’s definitely a lot of surprises, so I definitely don’t want to give anything away. But what they can expect is a very high energy experience. It’s a very interactive experience; expect to be involved with the show as far as dancing, singing and clapping. We bring guests on stage and we really allow people to get immersed in the experience, instead of just watching something that’s happening on stage.

Magic Men Live Tour

Magic Men Live is inspired a bit by the movie Magic Mike. Is there a Channing Tatum type of guy in your group?
Our show is inspired by a lot of different things. Magic Mike is just one thing that happened to bring awareness to what we do. We’ve been doing this a long time before that movie even came out. But it definitely did help bring awareness to what we do.  We pay tribute to certain things like Fifty Shades of Grey, which is a popular phenomenon. We also bring different things in pop culture to life on stage.
Is there a lead performer in your group that the crowd is going crazy over?
The unique thing about our group is that we have such a diverse cast that everyone is a lead in their own right. Every guy is highlighted in a certain way that accentuates their personality while they’re on stage. So they’re all leads and star performers at one point or another in the show.

What’s the craziest fan experience you guys have experienced on the road?
What we’ve discovered is that our show brings out the wild side of almost every audience that we encounter. It doesn’t matter what city we’re in or what state we’re in. It’s pretty much the same type of reaction across the board. What’s really cool to see is the super fans, which is what we call them. When somebody has been to a show and it has such an impact on them, they become super fans and follow us consistently on social media and they come to multiple shows. They’ll come to 10 or more just to support us. They will bring us gifts or write us cards. We’ve had a couple of times where there’s been a grandma in the audience and she’s just a shy, sweet old grandmother, but before you know it, she’s on stage dancing with the guys as well. Everyone gets a kick out of that.
